ROME, Oct.2022

We hadn't been to Rome in decades, and after Genoa and Venice in recent times it was high time we went. On this long overdue visit to The Eternal City ('La Città Eterna') I tried to steer away from the obvious buildings and architecture and maintain, as much as possible, my focus on my interests: streetphotography, urban art and anything to do with photography.
But the backdrop remain of course a city so rich in history (the Kings, Popes, sackings and rebuilts) and culinary delights!

Campo de' Fiori ('field of flowers') is a rectangular square south of Piazza Navona. The name dates to the Middle
Ages when the area was a meadow. I though this was a good place for streetphotography, as it was in 1991 for me,
but the reward here was minimal.

This hilltop square was designed by Michelangelo, it's lined with museums & offers nearby views of the Roman forum.

Polizia Roma Capitale. Rome is kept safe by a number of different polices forces.

Some history: 'In AD 24, the Lex Visellia was passed in order to attract recruits, as not many were willing to join the Vigiles initially. The Lex (=law) Visellia offered full citizenship and a monetary stipend to the Vigiles following six years of service.
The Vigiles were originally stationed in private homes and city buildings. By the mid 2nd century, special quarters were built to accommodate them. Sub stations, holding 30 to 49 men, were added as the city expanded. The Vigiles patrolled the streets, especially at night.'
