The Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial is an aviation museum in Elvington (York) on the site of the former RAF Elvington airfield, a Second World War RAF Bomber Command station.
The museum was founded, and first opened to the public, in the mid 1980s.
The YAM is one of the largest independent air museums in Britain. It is also the only Allied Air Forces Memorial in Europe.
I hope you enjoy my report and would welcome feedback

This reconstructed Halifax is the result of over 10 years work! The aircraft is based on a section of a Halifax Mk.II
which carried out an emergency landing on the Isle of Lewis in 1945. The fuselage section was later used a chicken coop!
The wings came from Hastings TG536 at Catterick. Named in honour of Halifax LV907 which completed 128 operations
with No.158 Sqn. A unique preservation for Europe here at the Yorkshire Air Museum.

The Museum’s Halifax reconstruction is based on a section of the fuselage of Halifax II, HR792, which crashed on the Isle of Lewis in 1945, after the undercarriage was retracted too early(!), before the aircraft was airborne. ..
A crofter, Mr McKenzie, purchased the fuselage section for use as a hencoop.
The outer wings were supplied by Henry Potter, the centre section and intermediate wings came from Hastings TG536 at RAF Catterick.
The reconstruction is named “Friday the 13th” in honour of Halifax, LV907, which completed 128 operations with No.158 Squadron, and is representative of all examples built.

Handley Page Halifax, LV907. This volunteer gave us an excellent explanation about the restoration and use in WWII

The Halifax I and II aircraft were powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines and the Halifax III was powered by Bristol Hercules engines.
Apart from the role as a heavy bomber, the Halifax III, and later versions, also served in Coastal Command and in paratrooping and glider towing roles with the Airborne Forces.
Halifax production totalled 6.178, the bomber versions flying a total of 75.532 sorties in the World War II.

'When restoration of this Halifax Mk.III composite was completed in 1984, it was the only complete example in the world, although a 2nd has since been recovered from a Norwegian lake and restored for display in Canada.
Based around large fuselage sections of Halifax Mk.II HR792, parts from LW687 and JP158 were also used,
along with the wings from Hastings TG536.
Painted on the port side as Mk.III LV907 of No.158 Sqdn, the starboard side represents Mk.IV NP763 'H7-N' with French roundels, commemorating an aircraft of that country's No.346 (Guyenne) Sqdn, which was based at Elvington.'
