| During 2011 the Aviodrome went into bankruptcy proceedings. On Friday 23Mar12 the Dutch Libéma Groep acquired the Aviodrome
museum.
Libéma Groep turned the Aviodrome in more of a 'theme park', less of a (flying) museum. The (airworthy) Douglas DC-2 and the Lockheed Constellation was bought by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lelystad city council and the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AAS) Group. Both aircraft were loaned back by Aviodrome/Libéma; this way it was secured that both unique historic aeroplanes would remain in the Netherlands. The Libema Groep bought the rest of the aircraft collection and invested over 5 million euro in the museum; the formula for the museum changed to a focus on families with children on a day out, laying the foundation for diversities such as aircraft restorations. The idea to create a museum with flying aircraft was, at least for the time being, not realistic. Reopening of the museum took place on Saturday 28Apr12. |
