STREET PHOTOGRAPHY

My focus in photography, and in general interests, shifts and wanders.. A few years ago, around 2012 I became more interested in photography's 'greats' and found myself more frequently visiting photo exhibitions and buying photobooks.
Photographers such as Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Robert Frank, John Margolies, Arnold Newman, Anton Corbijn, Steve McCurry, Werner Bischof, Annie Leibovitz, Marc Riboud, etc., took my interest. Photobooks were bought and in subsequent years I started actively collecting 'art' photobooks.
I found myself less interested in portraits and landscapes and gradually my interest was steered to photojournalism and streetphotography. Or maybe the term 'humanist photographer' is best applied here.
In the last two years streetphotography began to take up a large portion of my travel photography. In 2016 I bought a Fujifilm X100T camera for dedicated 'streetphotography'. Soon replaced by a Panasonic Lumix G (DMC-GX80) and in 2020 I bought a secondhand Leica Q..
Perhaps the title of 'Humanist Photography' (wikipedia) is more appropriate to my work.
The images were/are shared on my travel pages, Blog and Flickr & Facebook accounts.
In Sep.2016 I started a B&W streetphotography page, followed in August 2020 by colour work on that subject.
Again followed by Photographers & musicians (street) in March 2021.

In Sep.2021 I bought a Leica M-P (Typ 240) to experience Leica rangefinder photography. By 2023 my Leica equipment had grown to a Leica Q2 Reporter and a Leica M10-P (w/ 1958 Summicron 50 & 1968 35).

'Brocante' market in the castle gardens, superb antiques on offer
I had bought a wayang kulit shadow puppet whilst the seller was conversing with the man known as
'De Kuif' (EN=The Quiff)... I had seen him before, at another 'brocante market'.
Wajang is a loanword in Dutch from Javanese. In Javanese, wayang literally means "shadow" or "ghost".
The derived meaning of this word is a specific form of puppetry that uses shadow or light effects.

I had hoped to see
the sheep coming down from the Veluwe grounds through the streets of Rheden, but they had
suffered from the Bluetongue disease (Wikipedia) and had given birth late to their lambs; the herd
was too weak
to move a considerable distance and instead this horse-drawn-tram could bring visitors to/from the sheepfold.
Stalls included crafts and historic games such as here: blindfolded try to put the tail on the sheep...
Medieval-style music and indeed they played a good tune!
I also had a first look in Rheden's church
Since an occasional shower could be expected there were children's activities
here inside.
Description of Dorpskerk (village church) @Rheden:
Dutch Reformed Church with tuff impressive Romanesque tower (XII), decorated with bulrushes, round-arched and rectangular bays and arched friezes.
Covered with tuff, three-aisled pseudobasilical nave (XVIa) and three-sided closed choir (XV).
The choir has cross rib vaults over the nave and net vault.
Tower was restored 1930; church 1901-1904. South of the choir a sacristy under a pent roof.
Inventory: relief of limestone sinter with an image of the Annunciation (XI), pulpit, baptismal gate and pews (XVIII); gentleman's sofa (XVIII).
Originally a one-manual organ, made in 1816 by A. Meere. Restored in 1979 by S.F. Blank and expanded with new 'Bovenwerk'. This organ was purchased in 1989 for the Reformed Church. |

KLARENBEEK (GELDERLAND)
Dancing in the streets..
Merry people bringing colour to the streets!
Visited Klarenbeek Carnaval Parade yesterday (01Mar25).
One of the largest parades in Gelderland (so I am told), it started at noon from the Klarenbeek Station (which has a steamtrain museum).
Many participants participated again this year with floats and running groups. 'Boom-boom-boom' goes the music...
My first visit, but certainly the best since recent years. |
