Visit to Venice, Italy

Photos © Ruud Leeuw

The first time I visited Venice was with my parents, must have been aged 10 or so; that would be around 1965 or 1966.
The next time was in 1978, with my girlfriend (later my wife). Another visit followed in 2009, rather more for allowing my aging mother one last peek at her favourite city. My visit in 2015 started to included personal 'themes'.

In 2020 we benefitted from the Corona pandemic travel restrictions: other continents than Europe were notably absent.
This time I went for that famous festival: Il Carnevale!
I hope you will enjoy my report on 'La Serenissima', also known as 'La Dominante', 'Queen of the Adriatic', 'City of Water', 'City of Masks', 'City of Bridges', 'The Floating City' and 'City of Canals'.

I photographed with various cameras: Canon EOS R6 (+EF24-105/4 L), Leica Q2 (like above),
Panasonic FZ1000 II, pocket Canon S120 and my iPhone 11. All photos were made
in colour and adapted to B&W using Silver EFEX Pro 2 in PS CS6.

BUSY AND NOT SO BUSY

Calle Dolfin during the 'Carnivale' weekend. Masks were no longer obligatory but maybe
useful..? I did not wear any and did not get a covid-19 infection, but kept a shawl for my face.

As ever one can find locations without crowds here in Venice. A goal in itself to go exploring Venice.

VENICE IN FOG

I was lucky to wake up one day to a foggy morning here in Venezia.

Approaching the Rialto Bridge, when we got to the other side the fog was gone!

I had come across her in 2020 as well, at another location but in the same pose. I always drop some coins in her cup.

FOOD & DRINKS

We loved this local diner, Bar Tiziano in the Salizada S. Giovanni Grisostomo.
Unpretentious snackbar with a friendly atmosphere for drinks, sandwiches, pasticcini, torte dolci, & traditional dishes.
I will surely visit again upon a next visit to Venezia.

LIDO

On Tuesday's there's a large market here, on the Riva di Corinto, but found nothing of interest to us.

Lido Beach, closed

Venice in black & white (2022)
Lido beach was deserted, such a contrast to the summer! But worse for us: nowhere a restaurant to be found
along the long, long march on Lungomare Guglielmo Marconi. Not until we got to Granviale Santa Maria Elisabetta.
