The first time I visited Venice was with my parents, must have been aged 10 or so; that would be around 1965 or 1966.
The next time was in 1978, with my girlfriend (later my wife). Another visit followed in 2009, rather more for allowing my aging mother one last peek at her favourite city. My visit in 2015 started to included personal 'themes'.

In 2020 we benefitted from the Corona pandemic travel restrictions: other continents than Europe were notably absent.
This time I went for that famous festival: Il Carnevale!
I hope you will enjoy my report on 'La Serenissima', also known as 'La Dominante', 'Queen of the Adriatic', 'City of Water', 'City of Masks', 'City of Bridges', 'The Floating City' and 'City of Canals'.

ONES AND TWOS

Costumes galore, seen here in small groups of two or three, sometimes parading alone or with a photographer.

The masks take away the face expressions, the eyes get a staring quality and become mesmerizing.

Even on the Vaporetto it pays to keep the camera ready.

Costumes can resemble wardrobes from centuries ago, but also from fairy tales and 'Alice in Wonderland'!

I photographed with various cameras: Canon EOS R6 (+EF24-105/4 L), Leica Q2,
Panasonic FZ1000 II, pocket Canon S120 and my iPhone 11. All photos were made
in colour and adapted to B&W using Silver EFEX Pro 2 in PS CS6.

GROUPS

Groups posing in front of 'Palazzetto Bru Zane'.
Those in costumes would not remain at Pzza S.Marco but also wander around in the small streets, ranging
from the San Marco area to Rialto and Dorsoduro.

 

PROTEST

'Stop Nazipass', protesting against the socalled Greenpass in these Covid-19 'Corona' pandemic times.
